What is Humulin 70/30?
• Insulin is a hormone naturally produced by your pancreas humulin u. Insulin enablesthe body to use the sugar in food as a source of energy humulin u. When the body doesnot produce enough insulin, or when the insulin produced by the body is noteffective enough, the condition is called diabetes mellitus humulin u. This conditionallows sugar levels in the blood to become very high humulin u. Diabetics must use man-madeinsulin or insulin that comes from pigs (which is very similar to human insulin)to lower these high blood sugar levels humulin u.
• Humulin 70/30 is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus humulin u.
• Humulin 70/30 may also be used for purposes other than those listed inthis medication guide humulin u.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Humulin 70/30?
• Do not use Humulin 70/30 if you are allergic to insulin or if you haveintolerance to a certain insulin isophane and insulin regular product humulin u.
• Before using insulin, tell your doctor if you have any other medicalconditions or if you take other prescription or over-the-counter medications,including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements humulin u.
• Before using Humulin 70/30, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liverdisease humulin u. You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment humulin u.
• Most insulins can be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding humulin u. They arenot expected to be harmful to an unborn baby humulin u. How should I use Humulin 70/30?

• If the insulin has been stored in the refrigerator, it can be warmedto room temperature before use humulin u.
• Roll the container of insulin between your palms 10 times humulin u. Then, if youare using a pen or prefilled syringe, turn it upside down so that the glassball moves from one end to the other humulin u. Do this at least 10 times humulin u. Repeat thisprocedure until the suspension appears uniformly white and cloudy humulin u. Do not shakethe insulin vigorously humulin u. Inject immediately humulin u. Repeat this procedure before eachsubsequent injection humulin u.
• Do not use the insulin if it is discolored, has particles in it, or looksdifferent from previous vials, cartridges, or prefilled syringes of Humulin70/30 humulin u.
• Use only the approved delivery device(s) for cartridges or prefilledsyringes of insulin humulin u.
• If you are mixing different types of insulins in the same syringe, followyour doctor's directions and always draw up the different insulins in the sameorder (usually the clear insulin first) humulin u. • Rotate injection sites exactly as directed by your doctor humulin u. Usually, youshould not inject within 1 inch of the same site within 1 month humulin u.

• Do not change the insulin strength (e.g., U-100) or insulin type (e.g.,50/50 isophane-regular mixture, 70/30 isophane-regular mixture, etc.) unlessyour doctor recommends a change for you humulin u.

• Vials of Humulin 70/30 can be kept unrefrigerated for up to 28 days,but should not be exposed to excessive heat or sunlight humulin u.
• Once punctured, the vial of insulin in use, whether stored in the refrigeratoror at room temperature, must be used within 28 days humulin u. Throw away any unused insulin28 days after the vial is first punctured humulin u.
• Insulin cartridges and pens in use, should be stored at room temperature(below 86 degrees Fahrenheit/30 degrees Celsius), but should not be exposedto excessive heat or sunlight humulin u. Novolin 70/30 PenFill and Prefilled cartridgesand Humulin 70/30 cartridges in use can be kept unrefrigerated for one week humulin u. Humulin 70/30 Pens and Novolin 70/30 Innolets in use can be kept unrefrigeratedfor 10 days humulin u. Unrefrigerated cartridges, pens, and Innolets must be used withinthis time period or discarded humulin u.
What happens if I miss a dose?

What happens if I overdose?

• Do not use alcohol without first talking to your doctor humulin u. It lowers bloodsugar, and you may experience dangerously low blood sugar levels humulin u.
What are the possible side effects of Humulin 70/30?
• Rarely, people have allergic reactions to insulin humulin u. Seek emergency medicalattention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closingof the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) humulin u.
• The side effects of insulin therapy result mostly from blood sugar levelsthat are either too high or too low humulin u.
